BIRSTALL, England (From news reports) -- Firefighters were still in place July 8 at the scene of a recycling plant fire that broke out the day before.
Crews are dampening the blaze which started yesterday afternoon at the DS Smith recycling facilities, Gelderd Road, near the Birstall Shopping Park.
Fire service crews from across West Yorkshire were called to the incident at around 3:20pm, with the Cleckheaton team first on the scene, according to a spokesperson.
The plant, a 3,600 square metre building, was in flames when crews first arrived.
The blaze then spread to bales of waste at the rear of the building.
A spokesperson from Cleckheaton Fire Service said initial attendance was quickly made into 11 pumps with one aerial appliance.
They said, this then rose to 15 pumps in order to tackle the blaze.
Crews started to get the fire under control between 5pm-5:30pm, "after the England game", according to the spokesperson.
Some firefighters stayed overnight to manage the remnants of the fire, with crews still present this morning to dampen it.
The spokeperson from Cleckheaton said: "Conditions were extremely arduous, with crews having to enter the area through metal sheeting - there was lots of heat from there."
They added: "There were bales of paper on fire and crews were also dealing with the hot weather as well."
No cause has been given as of yet.
