ONTARIO (From news reports) -- An industrial fire that spread through the exhaust system at a Whitby packaging plant drew fire crews from three municipalities Monday morning before it was put out.
The fire, at Atlantic Packaging happened around 8:20 a.m. in one of the dryers in the plant, said Whitby deputy fire Chief Michael Tucker. A crew from Whitby Fire responded to the call and when the fire spread through the plant's exhaust system to its roof, aerial trucks from Oshawa Fire and Ajax Fire were called in for assistance, Tucker said.
Smoke was visible from the blaze, but fire crews were able to get it out within 90 minutes, Tucker said. Six trucks were called to the fire, with 25 firefighters from Whitby responding as well as four each from Oshawa and Ajax.
There were no injuries in the fire and a damage estimate is not available.
