Fire crews tackle late night blaze at Essity's Prudhoe Mill in the UK

UNITED KINGDOM (From news reports) -- A fire broke out at a tissue mill in Northumberland, prompting a major response from emergency services.

The incident occurred at Essity's Prudhoe Mill in Northumberland at 9 p.m. on Friday (July 24), and was quickly contained by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS).

Martin Hallissey, site director at Prudhoe Mill, said: "The fire started on one of our two paper machines late on Friday night, but was quickly dealt with by fire and rescue, who stayed on site until 1 am on Saturday.

"Thankfully there were no injuries, and the site was up and running again within hours.

"As such, we do not anticipate any impact on customer deliveries.

"We are grateful to our staff and firefighters for managing the situation quickly and professionally."

A Northumberland County Council spokesperson confirmed the fire broke out on the second floor and roof of the factory.

Four fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

NFRS, who were approached for comment, revisited and inspected the Prudhoe site on Saturday.
