Rengo develops flame- and heat-resistant inorganic sheet using cellulose nanofiber

Rengo Co., Ltd. announces that it has developed a flame- and heat-resistant inorganic sheet in collaboration with Marusan Paper, using Rengo's proprietary cellulose nanofiber FineNatura.

FineNatura is a cellulose nanofiber with an extremely fine fiber diameter and no chemical modification. It has been produced at Rengo's pilot plant since 2021. The heat-resistant inorganic sheet manufactured by Marusan Paper is made by molding rock wool, a mineral-derived fiber, into a sheet a few millimeters thick. Thanks to its porous structure, the sheet is lightweight and offers excellent sound absorption and thermal insulation. Additionally, since it is made from inorganic materials, it is inherently flame-resistant.

Compared to conventional sheets used in building materials and similar applications, the newly developed sheet offers significantly improved strength and rigidity. Tests have also confirmed enhanced sound insulation, particularly in its ability to reflect and block airborne noise. With additional advantages such as being lightweight, easy to handle, flame-resistant, high-strength, and effective in soundproofing, the product is expected to be utilized across a wide range of fields.

Going forward, Rengo and Marusan Paper will collaborate with partners across various industries to pursue commercialization of the product.
