LONGVIEW, Washington (From news reports) -- Longview Fire Department extinguished a blaze at NORPAC on Industrial Way Sunday night, March 24.
According to Longview Fire Department Fire Marshall Jon Dunaway, a fire was reported around 9 p.m. in a conveyor belt system. The damage was limited to the system, and no injuries were reported.
Dunaway said the battalion chief believes the fire was caused by overheating equipment or a malfunctioning roller bearing in contact with combustible materials.
He also reported that Ladder 81 used its aerial master stream, a small bucket-like compartment located at the top of the fire engine's ladder, to put out the fire. The remaining hot spots were extinguished by using hose lines on the ground.
Rusty Williams, a spokesperson for NORPAC, said the company is investigating the cause of the fire.
