Fire at Kruger facility in Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (From news reports) -- Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, Memphis firefighters were called to a Kruger facility.

The fire happened at Kruger Products near downtown Memphis.

"The employees were already out at the time. There were approximately 125-150 employees on-site," said Lt. Wayne Cooke.

Smoke loomed in the air as first responders worked in below freezing temperatures to fight the blaze.

Lt. Cooke said the extremely cold conditions presented a challenge for firefighters by causing their water hoses to freeze as well as slip and fall hazards.

"This type of temperature will decrease their time of actually firefighting. We want to rotate them in and out of the structure," said Cooke.

Thankfully firefighter's were able to get the three-alarm fire under control in just over an hour, and they credit a safety tool Kruger had in place.

"Their sprinkler system was activated and it was very instrumental in containing that fire to that one building," said Cooke.

There were no reported injuries.

It is unknown how much damage was done to the facility.
