EMPORIA, Va. (From news reports) -- A massive fire broke out overnight on Jan. 16 at the closed Georgia-Pacific plywood plant in Emporia. The Greensville Volunteer Fire Department said the entire facility was engulfed as firefighters arrived, with multiple departments responding.
Pictures show extensive damage and high winds carried embers across U.S. Route 58, leading to several brush fires igniting.
There's no word yet on what caused it, but fire officials said no injuries were reported. Firefighters will remain on-scene through the day Friday to ensure the fire remains contained.
Georgia-Pacific shut down the facility last July.
