Large fire at Sonoco Hartsville waste paper facility

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (From news reports) -- Crews battled a big fire Tuesday night at a waste paper plant on the property of Sonoco of Hartsville, according to an official.

Community members shared several pictures and videos of the fire. One woman said it appeared to be a huge explosion.

The fire was 90% contained around 11 p.m., Tuesday, with no structures damaged and no injuries were reported, according to Hartsville City Public Information Officer, Michelle Byers Brown

Brown said that the Hartsville Fire Dept. was cleared and the property was turned back over to Sonoco Wednesday.

The Hartsville Fire Dept., City of Darlington, Darlington County Fire, Hartsville Rescue, Darlington County EMS and Sonoco Fire Brigade helped to get the blaze contained and under control.
