Joakim Westerlund joins Woodio's Board of Directors

Metsä Group's innovation company Metsä Spring's portfolio company Woodio has appointed Joakim Westerlund as a new Board member.

Westerlund brings manufacturing industry and production development experience to the Woodio Board. He has a diverse background both from the academic world and as a business leader. Westerlund holds a PhD in engineering and has worked as a researcher at Åbo Akademi University and University College London. In the corporate world, Westerlund has a significant career with the building materials manufacturer Paroc Group, where he has held various management team roles, e.g. within the company's technology and production. Today, Westerlund is the CEO of Forcit Group, which specialises in explosives and consulting in construction environmental impact.

Woodio material is the world's first 100% waterproof solid wood composite made from real wood chips. Woodio is currently preparing to build a larger plant and thus, aims to significantly increase production capacity and improve security of supply. The collaboration between Woodio and Metsä Spring begun in 2019, when Metsä Spring invested in the startup company.
