Firefighters contain a quick-spreading fire in south Wichita, Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. (From news reports) - Wichita firefighters battled a fire at the International Paper Wichita Recycling Facility on Monday.

The call came in around 3 p.m. Shortly before 5 p.m., firefighters declared the fire contained but stayed on-site observing hot spots.

The fire spread to the north of the building where there were a lot of cardboard and paper products. Also, a lot of grass in the surrounding area and blowing embers added to the rise.

The cause of the fire is believed to be from heavy equipment used to move the cardboard. There were no reports of injuries.

The fire could be seen all over the Wichita metro area and caused traffic slowdowns off Kellogg, off K-42, and also off West Street south of Kellogg.
