Fire at Graphic Packaging facility deemed suspicious

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- A fire at a Battle Creek packaging plant was under investigation after several first responders were called to extinguish a flame found in two large bales of shredded paper, according to a release from the Battle Creek Fire Department.

BCFD responded to Graphic Packaging International just before 8 a.m. Saturday for reports of a fire at the manufacturing plant. When the numerous engines arrived, the were directed to a second floor fire that had ignited inside two bales of shredded paper.

The fire was extinguished, but the two bales needed to be removed with fork lifts from the building and fully extinguished outdoors. The fire is being deemed as suspicious and will continue to be investigated by BCFD.
