Attempted Murder at Menasha Packaging: Warehouse Stabbing Suspect Charged

MINOOKA, Ill. (From news reports) - Frederick Damico, 52, of Park Forrest has been charged with Attempted Murder, a class X felony, Aggravated Battery, a class three felony, and battery, following a stabbing incident at Menasha Packaging on March 3rd.

Damico has been accused of stabbing another individual at the packaging warehouse following an altercation, as stated in Grundy County court records.

Both the victim and Damico were employees at the business. Damico fled on foot after the incident, but was later apprehended by the Grundy County Proactive Unit at Arby's in Minooka. The victim who was stabbed was taken to St. Joe's Hospital in Joliet for medical attention.

Damico has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges and is currently in custody at the Grundy County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. This is not Damico's first legal encounter, as he was released on parole in October 2022 after serving a nine-year sentence for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. In 1997, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for Aggravated Arson and 25 years for Home Invasion in Stephenson County.

The motive for the stabbing remains unclear.

The incident has sparked concern among employees and residents in the area, who are calling for increased safety measures at the warehouse.

The trial date for Damico has not been set yet. Residents and employees in the area are encouraged to contact the Minooka Police Department with any information that may be relevant to the investigation.
