2 charged for damage to Louisiana Pacific transformers in Jackson County, Georgia
JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. (From news reports) -- Two men have been linked to thousands of dollars in damage to electrical transformers at a Louisiana Pacific facility on U.S. Highway 441 in Jackson County.

Intruders at the property of a Louisiana Pacific building on U.S. Highway 441 near Athens damaged 10 transformers valued at $35,000 each and drained an estimated 1,500 gallons of oil from the transformers, according to a Jackson County sheriff's report.

The damage was done, according to deputies, in the process of stealing copper cable "that was insignificant next to the damages."

Jackson Electric Membership Corp. owned the transformers and discovered the damage on Oct. 22.

Suspects were not identified, but on Nov. 4, sheriff's Maj. Steve Smith said a vehicle was seen parked at the site. Although no one was around the car, they found items removed from the plant at the vehicle.
