It's been said that having a positive attitude is the first step to success. This can be applied to any business situation, including capital projects.
A wise sage once told me that two people can experience the same thing and one can come away with a positive experience and the other with a negative experience. Why? It's all about mindset and attitude.
A successful capital project starts and ends with having the right attitude. Being helpful to colleagues working on the same project is a must. Afterall, you have the same end goal - a successful project.
I have seen individuals have a can-do type of mentality no matter what stage of the project. These people have a positive attitude and want to perform to the best of their ability and ensure that the project is completed successfully and timely. These individuals may be under a tremendous deal of pressure to complete a project, but you would never know it from their attitude.
Success begins in thought. If you have good thoughts and a positive attitude, no project will be too big or cumbersome.
A negative attitude not only affects you, but it also affects your colleagues and can create less team cohesion and a low morale.
We've all heard of the phrase "don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff." That is actually true, and when you start with a positive attitude, it becomes increasingly clear.
If a colleague gets discouraged, help them by encouragement. Encouragement goes a long way. When someone sees you having a positive attitude, it will have a huge impact on them.
