Sustana Fiber Joins New Consortium to Promote Global Recycling in Self-Adhesive Label Industry "CELAB: Toward a Circular Economy for Labels"
De Pere, Wis. (News release) - Sustana Fiber is pleased to announce that it has joined companies from around the world in the creation of a new Consortium, CELAB: Toward a Circular Economy for Labels. CELAB - Circular Economy for Labels - is an industry initiative, founded by companies in the self-adhesive label industry to create greater circularity for its products by enhancing and promoting matrix and release liner recycling around the world.

In forming CELAB, Sustana Fiber joins other leading companies in the self-adhesive label industry to facilitate collaboration at a global level, foster regional initiatives and find and encourage the universal adoption of industry best practices.

"Circular economy and sustainability is at the core of our business and through the commitment of CELAB and industry partners, this consortium demonstrates the collaboration and partnership the industry needs to support circularity, "said Renée Yardley, Sr VP Sales and Marketing at Sustana Group. "The advantage to recycling release liner provides new uses from a once used material for continued material life and reuse. When recycled fiber manufactured from used release liner is incorporated into the production of new face stock and release liner, a successful closed-loop is created. We are looking forward to working together to support the supply chain and environmental solutions together to create circularity in the label industry."

CELAB will operate as a coalition, empowered to reach across the entire value chain to promote a circular economy for self-adhesive label materials.

"The moment has arrived to create a globally focused platform for recycling solutions," said Paul Nathanson, a Senior Principal at Bracewell LLP and spokesperson for CELAB. "Brands are eager to communicate their commitment to sustainability in response to consumer demands to reduce their carbon footprint. With increased recycling capability gradually emerging from suppliers, producers, waste management, chemical recyclers and others, we see a tremendous opportunity to facilitate collaboration with partners up and down our industry's value chain."

CELAB includes a Global Steering Committee and regional Branches in Europe and North America, with plans to expand to other regions in the future. The regional Branches are designed to address the wide variance in production processes and recycling capability in different markets. Work streams are organized to address various aspects of matrix and release liner recycling, including analyzing technical issues, promoting the use and creation of recycling networks and solutions, interacting with government regulators, and educating the industry and public.
