Specialty Papers US 2019 Brings Innovation, Emerging Opportunities, and Sustainability to the Forefront of the Specialty Papers Industry

As a key US conference focused on developing ideas and capitalizing on relationships in the specialty papers market, Specialty Papers US 2019, coming to Milwaukee, WI, Sep. 30 - Oct. 2, 2019, will bring industry experts together for beneficial networking and discussion.

The 2019 program features topics around sustainable solutions, making printability better, market place changes, end-of-life solutions, emerging applications and developments, sustainable packaging dynamics, developments in process solutions, advancements in coatings and barriers, nanocellulose, and grease barrier technology.

Additionally, the 2019 speaker lineup features top experts from The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Cascades-Sonoco, Metsä Board, Novolex, Evonik Corporation, Sustana, Waste Management, Michelman, Solenis, Fisher International, Kotkamills Oy, and many more.

Scott Gearen, Chemical Security Inspector at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will discuss the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program and how the standards it sets in place apply to pulp and paper facilities. CFATS identifies and regulates high-risk chemical facilities to ensure they have security measures in place to reduce the risk of a terrorist attack. Pulp, paper, and paper conversion facilities use a wide variety of chemicals, many of which are regulated by CFATS for various security issues.

Mark Bond, Recycled Fibers Sales Manager at Sustana, will discuss the importance of developing a sustainable, circular supply chain. According to Bond, "Consumers want a company's sustainability efforts to be obvious and visible to them. And they are putting their money behind it."

Jeff Stacy, Market Segment Manager with Cascades-Sonoco, and Yvon Mongrain, Technical Director at Cascades-Sonoco, will discuss the commercial deployment of a water-based functional coating solution providing new applications in eco-friendly packaging, including recyclable, repulpable, and compostable containers.

Solenis' Larry Hutchinson, Global Market Development Manager, will present the development of a more sustainable barrier technology for packaging, utilizing vegetable oils and unique micro-encapsulation technology to create more sustainable barrier systems.

Dr. Graham Moore, Strategic Consultant at Smithers, has designed a workshop that will provide insight into the specialty paper sector, and an overview for those new to the industry.

The specialty papers industry is constantly developing and changing to meet the evolving needs of end-use markets, making it imperative for industry top-players to follow trends, and difficult for newcomers to catch on.

According to Moore, "This rapidly changing environment makes specialty paper one of the more interesting and creative sectors of the paper industry."

The workshop will discuss topics such as: global factors and influences that will shape future development of the specialty papers business, the specialty paper sector's position in the context of the overall paper industry, market updates, key end-use markets, future prospects, and important criteria for success in the specialty paper sector.

Along with presentations that inspires discussion, the program offers networking breaks, lunches, and an evening networking reception, giving attendees key time to build beneficial relationships that will last long after the event.
