Another Finland Strike? Are Paper Supplies in Trouble Again?

Another Finland strike is making headlines and giving the paper industry flashbacks to last year. The Finland Transport Workers' Union, known as Auto-ja Kjetusala Työntekijäliitto (AKT), began striking on February 15, 2023. The strike is between union and employer organizations over labor and wage disputes for stevedores, terminal workers, and other various transport professionals. If this sounds familiar, that's because the AKT was on strike just last year.

Resolute Forest Products is leading the way by providing employment opportunities in Northwestern Ontario for Ukrainians fleeing the war in Ukraine. Analysts: US OCC recycling rate may be below 70%

Two corrugated industry experts have crunched the numbers and concluded that the OCC recycling rate is likely much lower than estimates published by the paper manufacturing sector. Myles Cohen, an industry veteran and founder of consulting firm Circular Ventures LLC, and Ryan Fox, corrugated market analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, estimate the U.S. old corrugated container (OCC) recycling rate is around 69%, far lower than the 91.4% calculated and reported by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) in May of this year.
