Södra hikes timber prices

Södra raises prices for softwood and hardwood pulpwood. The background is the market's high demand in the short and long term.

The high demand for softwood and hardwood pulpwood persists. The strong energy market is leading to higher demand, while continued unrest linked to the war in Ukraine is affecting supply in the timber market. The need for softwood and hardwood pulpwood is expected to remain high during the summer and autumn, and Södra will therefore raise timber prices from today, 26 April.

- Demand for our forest products continues to be at high levels and is expected to continue. It is important that we have a stable timber flow from our members' forests to meet the needs of industry and therefore we raise the prices of softwood and hardwood pulpwood, says Olof Hansson, business area manager for Södra Skog.

Storm-damaged forest and nature conservation management in focus
In 2022, family forestry in Götaland has been hit by storms. In Södra's members' forests, an estimated 1.2 million cubic meters have been damaged, according to an inventory. The work of dealing with the damaged forest will continue in the spring.

- We work hard to deal with the damaged forest and Södra's 52,000 members are urged to review their storm-felled forest as soon as possible. After that, it is important to work with its nature conservation management to develop the forest's natural values during summer and autumn, says Olof Hansson, business area manager for Södra Skog.

The following price adjustments apply from 26 April 2022:

  • Coniferous pulpwood is increased by SEK 30 / m³fub
  • Deciduous pulpwood is increased by SEK 50 / m³fub

After the price adjustment, the base price for prime softwood pulpwood is SEK 385 / m³fub and prime birch and aspen pulpwood SEK 425 / m³fub.
