Port Hawkesbury Paper Marks a Year of Progress with the Release of Its 2024 Sustainability Report

Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia (News release) - Port Hawkesbury Paper (PHP) announces the release of its 2024 Sustainability Report, which details a year of significant achievements and ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, community growth, and industry-leading safety practices. The report highlights PHP's activities and accomplishments through 2024, underscoring the company's continued dedication to safety, sustainability, and long-term value for its employees, customers, partners, and the broader Nova Scotia community.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • A Record in Safety Performance: PHP achieved its lowest recordable incident rate to date, at 0.64, attributable to enhanced training, the adoption of new technologies, and the collective effort for a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Significant Advancements Toward Clean, Renewable Energy: The Goose Harbour Lake Wind Farm project secured $450 million in project financing and is expected to provide over 60% of the mill's power requirements. This initiative, strengthened by Indigenous partnership, marks a major step towards economic growth and achieving provincial carbon emission reduction targets.
  • Innovation and Market Expansion: The launch of new high-quality paper grades, Altitude and Elevation Book and Offset, positions PHP to develop new markets, reinforcing its reputation for premium products within a challenging industry landscape.
  • Forestry Stewardship: The report highlights PHP's continued adherence to strict, independent third-party forestry certification standards with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC-C112699), Sustainable Forestry Initiative®, and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.
