Paper Industry International Hall of Fame dinner set for 3 Oct in Appleton, Wisc.

APPLETON, Wisc. (From news reports) - Those employed in the paper business will gather Oct. 3 for the industry's annual dinner

But the name and tone of the evening have changed.
The event previously known as the Hall of Fame Dinner was renamed "Honors on the River" with the subhead "Celebrating the stars of the past and the bright lights of our future."
Besides recognizing notables in the paper and related industries, the event at the Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley will focus on the future of the paper business, including how to attract younger workers into careers in the industry.
"We want our legacy to inspire a new generation to greatness," said event chair Peter Allen. "Our mission is to inspire a new generation by sparking interest in STEM/STEAM topics in a fun, hands-on and engaging way."
STEM refers to science, technology, engineering and math. STEAM is the same plus art, Allen said.
Tonight's event includes a silent auction, photo booth, wine pull, presentation of the Doug Dugal Scholarship Award and a buffet dinner. It will not have a keynote speaker.
"The recipient of the Doug Dugal 'Take Flight' award is Jessica Tocco, a pulp and paper student from Western Michigan University, currently interning at Kimberly-Clark in Jenks, OK," said Allen. "Jessica will be present to receive her award presented by Doug's son, Raj."
The awards portion of the evening will induct three men into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame:
• Roberto Berardi, chairman of the European Tissue Symposium in Turin, Italy
• Donald D. Dick, retired, Dick Engineering Inc. in Toronto, Canada
• Dr. Gordon A. Nicholls, research scientist/consultant in Auckland, New Zealand

The 25th annual dinner event is hosted by the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame, which is located inside the Paper Discover Center on the Fox River in Appleton.
