Multiple departments respond to fire at Catalyst mill

PORT ALBERNI, British Columbia (From the Alberni Valley News) -- No cause has been determined yet for the paper machine fire that broke out at the Catalyst paper mill late in the evening on Thursday, 16 April 2015, Port Alberni Fire Department Chief Tim Pley said.

"It was a paper machine fire. So a paper machine fire is volatile, they flash up big really fast and die down often. This fire didn't die down, it was more sustained than we're use to seeing," Pley said.

Multiple fire departments responded to the fire which was extinguished around 2 a.m. on Friday.

"I'm not aware of anybody being injured," said Pley.
