Man accused of 1-ton copper theft from Graphic Packaging site in Louisiana

WEST MONROE (From news reports) -- A West Monroe man is facing a felony theft charge after an investigation into the disappearance of copper wire at the Graphic Packaging construction site.

According to an arrest report for Jory Lawrence, age 45, a construction worker at the site contacted the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office regarding the disappearance of 2,000 pounds of copper wire and a Troy-Bilt generator.

The items were stolen from the construction site at 430 Louisiana 594.

Deputies interviewed Lawrence Thursday after learning he sold approximately 900 pounds of copper wire to Roadrunner Recycling in Bastrop.

According to the report, Lawrence said he took the wire from the construction site while he was working there.

Lawrence was booked on one felony theft charge on Thursday. Total bail has not been set.
