Lecta has commissioned a new metallizing line, named Leitzaran, at its mill in Leitza, Spain, which increases metallizing capacity and enables production of high-performance barrier papers for a range of packaging applications, according to the technology supplier BOBST.
The new Leitzaran line is an EXPERT K5 2450mm metallizer configured specifically for Lecta and is the third BOBST metallizer installed at the Leitza mill. Operational since February 1, 2026, the installation incorporates BOBST AluBond technology to enhance aluminium layer adhesion on any substrate and improve barrier properties. The line is the first installation equipped with the BOBST iMA (Intelligent Metallizer Assistant) system, which enables automatic control of the deposition process. The system offers a largest-in-industry coating window, higher production speeds, and greater precision in aluminium layer control.
The line supports paper widths of up to 240 cm and basis weights ranging from 35 to 300 g/m2. The installation has the biggest reel diameter of any EXPERT K5 produced by the supplier at 1.5 m.
The investment supports the continued development of Lecta's metallized paper portfolio for applications including flexible packaging and wet-glue labels. Over the past two years, the company has expanded its range of metallized paper solutions for flexible packaging while maintaining a wet-glue and label portfolio.
Lecta is a multinational group with 2,700 employees and six mills in Spain and Italy with a production capacity of approximately 1.6 million tons.
