Labour ministry probes death of Cascades forklift operator

CANADA (From news reports) -- Ontario's Ministry of Labour has opened an inquiry after a man died Wednesday, Sept. 17, following an incident involving a forklift at the Cascades company operation in an east-end industrial park.

Ottawa paramedics said Thursday they were called Wednesday at about 6:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of Sheffield Road. Paramedics said the victim was trapped under a forklift and was declared deceased at the scene.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development said via email it had been notified of a workplace incident in Ottawa.

"A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details can be provided at this time."

Cascades is a Quebec-based company that collects recycled paper, cardboard and plastics, according to its website.
