Kent Fire and Rescue called to blaze at Smurfit Westrock Townsend Hook paper mill in Snodland

UNITED KINGDOM (From news reports) -- Fire crews remain at the scene of a paper mill blaze more than 24 hours after they first arrived to tackle the flames.

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen coming from Smurfit Westrock Townsend Hook in Mill Street, Snodland, Aug. 5.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called just before 2.30pm after the blaze involving stacks of paper broke out.

They said four fire engines, a technical rescue unit, and a volunteer response team were at the scene.

By 8.30pm, the response had been scaled back to two fire engines and the technical rescue unit.

At 9.30am this morning, two fire engines remained on site with firefighters pulling piles of paper apart to extinguish any remaining fires.
