In Wisconsin: $2 million state grant funds port improvement

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (From The Green Bay Press Gazette) - A state grant will allow RGL Holdings to reactivate its dock on the Fox River and create 22 jobs.

The company, based at 1401 State St., will use the $2 million harbor maintenance and improvement grant to raise the site above the flood stage, add a rail spur and an elevated loading platform, and update security systems. The improvements will allow it to import 50,000 to 100,000 metric tons of wood pulp per year on behalf of Suzano Pulp and Paper.

"We will be able to bring new life to a dock operation that has been dormant for nearly three decades, generate new jobs in our community, and provide new shipping capabilities for the region," said Bob Johnson, CEO of RGL.

Suzano imports eucalyptus pulp from Brazil for use in mills in northeastern Wisconsin, and the dock would be a more efficient way to do so, according to Port of Green Bay minutes from July 18. Suzano Pulp's clients include Georgia-Pacific, Procter & Gamble and Kimberly Clark. RGL has a longtime relationship with nearby Georgia-Pacific, as well.

The site has not been used for docking operations for 25 years.

RGL provides transportation, distribution and handling services for companies throughout the United States and Canada.
