Huhtamaki's rating of 67 puts it in the top 10% of companies in the packaging sector. Our performance is driven by increased focus on biodiversity, climate action and waste management as well as human rights and anti-corruption.
"We are proud to have maintained our CSA score and that we are ranked in the top 10% of companies in the packaging sector. This reflects our continuous focus on the three pillars of sustainability and how we are leading progress by quickly embedding best practices across our sustainability agenda. In 2022, we published our updated environmental policy and strengthened our understanding of our impact on biodiversity as well as made significant progress on the waste disposal at our sites - an issue where we have a responsibility to do it right. Simultaneously, we see that the thresholds are raising for what is considered good in sustainability. This is why in 2023 we have focused on strengthening our social and governance processes by setting up a social sustainability steering group, updating our policies and discussing potential social KPIs", says Thomasine Kamerling, EVP Sustainability and Communications.
Looking to the rest of 2023, we are increasing efforts in key areas, such as:
- Working on understanding the financial impacts of sustainability-related risks
- Integrating our human rights and responsible sourcing performance to our processes including our incentives
- Understanding our impact on biodiversity in the areas we operate and defining our ambition
While we recognize that our score reflects progress which we can be proud of, we know our journey is far from over. We will keep embedding sustainability in everything we do, operationalizing sustainable change where it matters most.
