Hazmat situation at Pixelle Stevens Point mill

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (From news reports) - Several fire departments and what appeared to be Hazmat units were called to assist an incident in Stevens Point on May 26.

Stevens Point Fire Chief Jb Moody confirmed there was a sulfuric acid spill at Pixelle Specialty Solutions in Stevens Point. The department called in the help of surrounding departments including the Plover Fire Department's Hazmat team.

The scene was evaluated and the spill contained. A clean up crew was called in to clean the area and left the scene. Moody said the public was never in any danger and the mill was not evaluated.

Reporters on-scene said they could see people suiting up in Hazmat suits.
