Firefighters extinguish fire at R.R. Donnelly facility

DANVILLE, Kentucky (From Central Kentucky News) -- A fire broke out at the R.R. Donnelley facility at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Danville firefighters reported to the scene, and after a short time, called for all available Danville firefighters, as well as for the Boyle County Fire Department, to respond.

Few details were immediately available. According to Danville Assistant Fire Chief Tim Brumfield, the fire is believed to be caused by a machine in the facility.

"The sprinkler activated, which helped us out," he said. Because of the size of the building, extra hose was needed to reach the source of the heavy fire.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out by about 9 p.m. and spent the next several hours working to ventilate smoke from the building, using a method where they "pressurize" the building, Brumfield said.

"It's hard to pressurize a building that size," he said, referring to the portion of the factory where the fire broke out. They were doing this by setting up fans to force the smoke out and opening vents on the roof.

There were no injuries.
