Fire erupts inside debarking machine at Glatfelter

YORK, Pennsylvania (From The York Dispatch) -- No one was injured when a fire erupted inside a debarking machine at Glatfelter paper company near Spring Grove on Monday.

Crews were dispatched to the company's wood yard along Route 116, locally known as York Road, in North Codorus Township for the fire about 10 a.m., said Larry Wildasin, the township fire chief.

The fire was largely contained to inside the machine at the top of a three-story building, he said.

Production at the company's Pulpwood Receiving Area was halted, but production at the rest of the plant continued, said Bill Yanavitch, a company spokesman.

Firefighters from about 10 companies responded to the scene, Wildasin said.

Crews remained on the scene until about 3 p.m.

Crews and the company are investigating what caused the minor blaze, Yanavitch said.
