Elevating Indoor Air Quality Standards: Kimberly-Clark's New Kleenex® Air Filters Earn Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification

WASHINGTON (News release) -- The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) are pleased to announce Kleenex® Elite Allergen Air Filters MERV 12 and 13 have earned the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification.

The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program is a collaborative initiative between AAFA and ASL, dedicated to helping consumers identify products that contribute to a healthier indoor environment. Products undergo rigorous independent testing to meet scientific standards established by the program. Only products that meet those strict standards earn the certification mark. Products that are Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certified are proven to be suitable for people with asthma and allergies.

HVAC systems circulate air through ducts, distributing it throughout a building. Allergens like pollen and animal dander, and other microparticles, can spread through the indoor environment this way. Therefore, using an effective air filter is crucial for maintaining a healthier indoor environment, reducing asthma and allergy triggers, and improving indoor air quality.

Kleenex® Elite Allergen Air Filters MERV 12 and 13 earned the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® certification by demonstrating through strict scientific testing that they:

  • Effectively reduce the total allergen burden by removing allergens from the air
  • Maintain performance without significant airflow reduction, even as the filter accumulates particulate allergens, thereby also avoiding increased energy consumption
  • Feature strong edge seals that prevent air and particles from bypassing the filter

"Household air pollution and poor ventilation contribute to increased health risks," said Kenneth Mendez, President and CEO of AAFA. "On behalf of the more than 100 million people in the United States with asthma and/or allergies, we appreciate the Kleenex® Brands' dedication to produce air filters that demonstrably help improve indoor air quality and reduce exposure to common asthma and allergy triggers."

"Achieving the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® certification requires rigorous scientific testing and a true commitment to enhancing indoor air quality. Kleenex® Air Filters have demonstrated their ability to significantly reduce allergens, maintain performance, and ensure effective sealing, making them a reliable choice for optimizing indoor environmental quality. We are proud to certify their product and support their mission to provide high-quality air filters for consumers," said Dr. John McKeon, CEO of ASL.

By meeting these stringent standards and achieving certification, Kimberly-Clark and the Kleenex® Brand make a clear commitment to help clean the air in your home and provide a healthier environment for your family with its newly Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certified air filters.

"Kleenex® is already a household name dedicated to life's moments, and with the addition of the new Kleenex® Air Filters we support a healthier indoor environment for your home and family." said Sharnell Weathersby Senior Brand Manager, Kimberly-Clark. "We are especially proud of the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® certification that helps demonstrate our commitment to quality and helping improve indoor air quality."
