Crews battle fire at Expera mill in Old Town, Maine

OLD TOWN, Maine (From The Bangor Daily News) -- Firefighters arrived at a blaze reported Wednesday morning 15 April 2015 at the Expera Old Town mill on Portland Street to find the flames were extinguished by employees, company spokeswoman Addie Teeters said in an email.

"It was a small lube oil fire in the turbine building," Teeters said responding to a Bangor Daily News request for information. "We secured the power in the area as a prevention. Fire is contained, and we don't have specifics on damage yet. There were no injuries, and our internal personnel were able to extinguish the fire."

The fire departments of Orono and Old Town did respond, she said.

Expera Speciality Solutions is a Wisconsin-based firm that makes specialty papers and purchased the pulp-making mill for $10.5 million in December.
