Appvion launches receipt paper free of industrial chemicals

APPLETON, Wisconsin (From the Post Crescent) - Shoppers out and about in the Fox Valley this holiday weekend will want to hang on to their receipts for a couple of reasons.

It will make gift exchanges easier and perhaps even provide a jolt of vitamin C.

Appvion has launched a new receipt paper made with vitamin C instead of industrial chemicals like bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS). The receipt paper can be found in select stores around the country, including St. Vincent DePaul of Appleton; Jacob's Meat Market in Appleton; Tom's Drive In's East Wisconsin Avenue location in Appleton; and Just Fare Market in Fond du Lac.

"Appvion understands that some consumers care about what's in their receipt paper, not just what is printed on it," Dave Pauly, product manager for thermal receipt paper at Appvion, said in a statement. "In response to demand for a more natural receipt paper, we now offer Alpha Free, which is manufactured using vitamin C and meets the needs for people who are concerned about phenols like BPA. Appvion's Alpha Free is really a testament to our shared vision of accelerating applied innovation. We are always looking at ways to develop new solutions that address customers' unmet needs."

A total of 17.6 billion U.S. shoppers visited brick-and-mortar stores during the 2013 holiday shopping season, according to an Appvion news release. Holiday sales are expected to rise 4.1 percent this November and December, meaning even more shoppers will be visiting stores and receiving gift receipts.

Whether stocking up on groceries for holiday entertaining or tackling an extended gift list, shoppers can easily spot Alpha Free receipt paper by its yellow color.
