GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (From news reports) - Rey Moore - one of the men convicted of killing paperworker Tom Monfils in 1992 - was released on parole Tuesday.
And, another of the six men convicted, Michael Johnson, is scheduled to be released on parole Wednesday.
Monfils was found dead in a pulp vat at the then-James River paper mill in Green Bay. More than two years later, after a joint trial, Moore and Johnson were convicted along with Keith Kutska, Dale Basten, Michael Piaskowski, and Michael Hirn.
Piaskowski's conviction was overturned by a federal judge. Basten, who was in failing health, was paroled and died shortly after his release. Hirn was previously released on parole.
That means that after Wednesday, only Kutska will remain in prison. His next parole eligibility date is May 1, 2021, with his next review hearing scheduled for March, 2021.
Monfils reported a theft of an extension cord by Kutska, setting in motion a series of events. Prosecutors said all six men were involved in Monfils' murder, but all six continue to maintain their innocence.
