Veolia to capture more than 50 MW of heat from flue gases at biomass boiler plant by 2027

Veolia plans to build a flue gas condensing heat recovery facility at its EC4 combined heat and power plant in Łódź, Poland, to capture more than 50 MW of energy for the district heating network, according to the technology supplier Valmet.

The delivery includes a flue gas condensing plant with three distinct condensing stages designed to maximize heat recovery. Valmet will also supply a condensate treatment system to process flue gas condensate for use as raw water in plant operations and an extension of the existing Valmet DNA automation system at the site.

The recovered thermal energy will feed into the Łódź district heating network. The project forms part of Veolia's broader HeatUp! initiative at the EC4 plant and is calculated to reduce CO2 emissions by over 82,000 tonnes per year.

The facility is scheduled to start up during the Q3 2027. The investment is included in Valmet's Q4 2025 orders received; the order value has not been disclosed.
