GORHAM, N.H. (From news reports) -- A longtime Gorham Paper and Tissue employee has died from injuries he received in an accident at the paper mill four weeks ago.

Brian Leclerc, 56, of Berlin passed away Monday.

Leclerc was injured on Oct. 21, when a bale of paper clippings, weighing about 1,500 pounds, fell on him. He was taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin and later transferred to a facility in Maine.

A federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration spokesman confirmed the agency opened an inspection into the accident on Oct. 25. The spokesman said the agency does not comment on open inspections.

OSHA has six months to complete the inspection.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of GPT employee Brian Leclerc and extend our deepest sympathies to his family," said Mill Manager David Cameron. "We continue to work with OSHA on investigating the incident and have no further details at this time.

Leclerc was a lifelong resident of Berlin and a graduate of both Berlin High School and White Mountains Community College.

He loved sports, especially softball. He also served a term on the Berlin Board of Education.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Theresa Leclerc of Berlin, and daughters Sarah of Hudson, Mass., and Emily Leclerc of Deforest, Wis.
