Resolute Achieves 81% Reduction in Absolute Greenhouse Gas Emissions Since 2000 | Graphic Packaging, fire,

CANADA (News release) -- In 2011, Resolute made an ambitious commitment: to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 65% by 2015, compared to 2000 levels. Thanks to significant efforts deployed across our operations, we reached our goal ahead of schedule - but we didn't stop there. At the end of 2015, we had achieved a 70% reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions, and by the end of 2017, that number had climbed to 76%.

At the end of 2018, we reached a new high of 81%- the equivalent of taking 1.93 million cars off the road!

We're continuously looking for ways to reduce emissions across our operations, and two major projects undertaken in 2018 will help further reduce our carbon footprint. Between our Thunder Bay (Ontario) pulp and paper mill and our Saint-Félicien (Quebec) pulp mill, we invested a total of C$90 million in 2018 for operational improvements. Of those sums, $14.7 million at Thunder Bay and $21.5 million at Saint-Félicien went directly towards reducing GHG emissions by 20% at each facility. These investments are expected to reduce emissions by about 78,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalents each year. A patented technology developed by CO2 Solutions Inc. to capture carbon from the Saint-Félicien mill for the adjacent Toundra Greenhouse was recently commissioned in March 2019, and this will reduce GHG emissions by an additional 10,000 metric tons per year.
