SOUTH AFRICA (From news reports) -- Mondi has confirmed a shooting incident that occurred at its Richards Bay mill on Wednesday morning, April 8.
It has been confirmed that two employees have died, while another was injured during the incident.
It is reported that a gunman shot two colleagues, killing one, before turning the gun on himself. The injured person was rushed to hospital.
The company said emergency protocols were immediately activated, and the site was secured. Police were on scene, and an investigation is under way.
Mondi has extended condolences to the affected families, loved ones and colleagues.
"The safety and well-being of our employees remains our top priority. We are providing support to our employees and have taken the necessary steps to ensure the site remains safe.
"We will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities and will provide further information as appropriate," said Mondi South Africa CEO Jason Smith.
