GREEN BAY, Wis. (From news reports) - A central figure in Green Bay's paper industry and community has passed away.

Saint Norbert College announced the death of Green Bay Packaging Chairman James Kress on Sunday afternoon during a graduation ceremony in the gymnasium named after him.

He was 90 years old.

According to the company website Kress took over as head of Green Bay Packaging in the early 1960's after the death of his father and the company's founder, George Kress.

He became the company's chairman in 1994.

The Kress family also helped pay for the main events center on UW-Green Bay's campus along with the Kress Library in De Pere.
