It is with sadness we want to inform our community of the passing of Dr. Bob Kennedy, UBC alumnus and former Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at UBC.

Bob Kennedy graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the New York State College of Forestry, Syracuse University, and a Master's from UBC Faculty of Forestry. After graduating, he pursued a PhD at Yale University, and was offered an assistant professor of Wood Science position at the University of Toronto. He returned to the Pacific coast in 1966 to work at the Western Forest Products Laboratory (predecessor of FPInnovations) where he eventually became the Director.

In 1979, Dr. Kennedy returned to teaching wood anatomy and properties, wood chemistry, timber mechanics and microtechnique at UBC Forestry, and served as Dean of the Faculty from 1983-1991 until his retirement in 1991.

He remained connected with the Faculty as Dean Emeritus, part of the Dean's Circle and informal advisor, and as a philanthropist, supporting graduate students through the Robert and Averil Kennedy Forestry Graduate Scholarship.
