Statistics Canada postponed the releases of Canadian international merchandise trade and international trade in services data due to the earlier shutdown of the U.S. federal government.
The trade data for September and October 2025 will not be published as originally scheduled on December 4. The next planned releases are tentatively set for December 11, 2025, and January 8, 2026, respectively. The delay also affects related analytical products, including The Daily reports, data tables, and interactive applications such as the Canadian International Merchandise Trade Web Application and the International Trade Monthly interactive dashboard.
Revisions to prior months' trade data normally published with the October release will also be deferred. The revised schedule sets publication dates for November 2025 data on January 29, 2026, December 2025 data on February 19, 2026, and January 2026 data on March 12, 2026. These dates apply to both goods and services trade and remain subject to change.
According to Statistics Canada, the earlier suspension of operations at the United States Census Bureau on October 1, 2025, caused the disruption. Since 1990, Canada and the United States have exchanged import data under a bilateral arrangement allowing each to compile the other's export statistics. Statistics Canada explains that the shutdown interrupted this data exchange, preventing completion of the October trade compilation.
Statistics Canada states that the publication schedule is expected to return to normal after the rescheduled releases.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that it is updating its economic indicator release calendar in coordination with other federal agencies and the Office of Management and Budget. The current schedule lists several trade-related releases as "to be announced" (TBA), and a new publication timetable will be provided once finalized.
