CARRINGTON, U.K. (From news reports) -- Ten fire crews are at the scene of a large fire at a Saica paper mill between Partington and Carrington.

The fire service was called to Saica Paper UK shortly after 10am on Friday morning to a blaze involving four stacks of paper in a handling yard.

Fifty firefighters remain at the scene and are expected to be at the site for at least the next 24 hours and potentially the next few days.

Residents living nearby have been asked to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service says fire fighters are 'doing an excellent job' containing the fire. About ten appliances have been sent to the scene.

The Environment Agency says it is aware of the fire and is supporting the fire service.
